Ahead of the biennial elections in 2024, Mumbai Police It issued guidelines for the upcoming polls on June 26 and shared details of complete restrictions in the city during the polling period.
In a precautionary order, police said polling for the biennial elections to the Legislative Council for Mumbai University Graduates and Mumbai Teachers constituencies will be held at many polling stations in the above-mentioned constituencies on June 26 and a large number of voters are likely to visit various polling stations to exercise their voting franchise.
Police said it was necessary for the purpose of preventing obstruction, nuisance, injury, or risk of obstruction, nuisance or injury to lawfully employed persons, and for the purpose of preventing a disturbance of the public peace.
The precautionary order was issued by Mumbai Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan on Friday.

The preventive orders issued by the Mumbai Police further state that all voters visiting a polling station to cast their vote shall form separate queues for men and women in front of the polling station and once entry into the polling station is permitted as directed by the Chief Polling Officer, each voter shall enter the polling station in turn according to his or her position in the queue. No person other than the Commission-appointed observers and authorised election police officers shall carry or use any mobile phone, walkie-talkie etc within 100 metres around a polling station (termed as ‘polling station perimeter’) and inside the polling station (Section 130 of the Representation of People Act, 1951).

“Putting up any election campaign posters or banners within 100 metres of any polling station is prohibited. Also, the use of loudspeakers, megaphones etc. within 100 metres of any polling station is prohibited,” police said.
