The Pakistan cricket team has come under considerable criticism after suffering two consecutive losses in the ICC World Cup. After an early exit in the ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan was eliminated from the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup. What was even more disappointing for Pakistan fans was that the team was eliminated after losses to the United States and India. Against India, Pakistan came close to winning but could not capitalize on their advantage.
Former Pakistan cricket team captain and former president of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Ramiz Raja, lost his cool while commenting on the team’s poor performance.
“Ah, it was thanks to this village that Chunchun joined the team. “(You’ve turned this team into a mix of different things),” Raja said on his YouTube channel.
“They brought back some old retired players to try and save face in the T20 World Cup… but they let some good players slip away just because it is the World Cup and they need experience. Even if they are complaining about the captain, they should bring back retired players.”
Raja further said that this is a long-standing blunder by the Pakistan team.
“Let’s all value teamwork. Humans should be human. “(Teams don’t work that way. We have tried this before),” Ramiz said. “I think it was the 2003 World Cup. We had all the superstars in that team thinking their experience would help. But they were ageing stars and they couldn’t save Pakistan. We lost badly there too.”
“You have to work out who to use, what is the role of captaincy. Unless you bring leadership into this environment, let them make decisions, bring in discipline and merit, aren’t trying to run the team from the sidelines, have a cricket IQ and mindset and take the right decisions morally and cricketingly, it is almost impossible for the team to bounce back,” Ramiz said.
“You will now find a sheep to sacrifice to protect your position. That is not the way cricket should be run.”
