  • Naomi Campbell, 54, has revealed that she is now a single mother, having had two children via surrogate.
  • “I understand it’s tough financially, but my mother had nothing and managed to get by,” Campbell told The Times.
  • She added that many young women are not interested in becoming mothers, but she believes they will eventually change their minds.

Naomi Campbell says she had two children via surrogate after turning 50.

In an interview with The Times published Friday, the supermodel spoke about motherhood and her hopes for her children.

In 2021, Campbell revealed on Instagram that she had welcomed her first child, a daughter, and in 2023, at age 53, she announced the birth of a son. Both Instagram posts have since been deleted.

“My children mean everything to me. I’m scared for their future,” Campbell told The Times.

After confirming to the outlet that she had had a child via surrogate, Campbell revealed that she was a single mother.

“I want a better world for my children. They are my number one priority 110 percent. I have to be there on their first day of school,” she said.

Campbell added that he understands younger generations are not interested in becoming parents, but believes they will eventually change their minds.

“I’ve heard a lot of young women say that having children is too expensive and that they might not want it. I say, ‘You’ll change your mind. You’ll want to be a mom.’ I know it’s tough financially, but my mom had nothing and she made it work. It’s worth it. It’s really amazing,” Campbell said.

“We have to rely on the younger generation to change this world. I believe it’s our kids more than us who will do the right thing,” she added.

A 2021 Pew Research Center survey found that more Americans are not interested in having children.

Child care costs are also rising: Business Insider estimates that parents will spend at least $25,714 on raising their children this year, up 41.5% from 2016.

Campbell has kept her children’s lives private, avoiding publicly sharing photos of their faces or even their names. Even a photo of her children she posted to Instagram in May showed her standing by water with two of her children, one in her arms and the other holding hands, but from behind.

In 2022, Campbell told British Vogue that she had always wanted to be a mother.

“I always knew I would be a mother one day, but this is the greatest joy I could imagine. I am blessed to have my daughter, I know that,” Campbell said.

At the time, she said, she also encouraged her older friends to have children.

“I tell everybody: Do it! Don’t hesitate!” Campbell said.

A representative for Campbell did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent outside regular business hours.
