Patrick Bertoletti won the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest for the first time in his career by eating 58 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, a new personal best for Bertoletti, who returned in 2022 after a 10-year absence from the competition. Jeffrey Esper came in second with 53 hot dogs and buns.
Miki Sudo dominated the competition, winning the women’s division for the 10th time with 51 hot dogs and buns, setting a new women’s world record.
This year’s Coney Island Fourth of July event was not attended by 16-time champion Joey Chestnut, who sat out the event due to a contractual dispute.
Instead, Chesnut competed in his own event, the Fort Bliss Meet and Greet, held in El Paso, Texas. In the five-minute competition, Chesnut easily out-eat four U.S. soldiers combined, downing 57 hot dogs and buns compared to the competitors’ 49. Notably, Chesnut’s total was only one hot dog behind Bertoletti’s, despite competing in half the time.
