KARACHI: The 21st Westbury National Tennis Championship commenced at the Karachi Club on Thursday, with organisers confirming more than 230 entries across various events.

Results from Thursday included qualifying matches in the men’s singles and juniors Under-18 singles categories, alongside the opening round of the men’s singles main draw.

In men’s singles qualifying, Arham Shahzad defeated Fawaz Ali Tejani 8-0, Jawed Khan beat Maula Madad 8-0 and Yasir Fazli overcame M.Fawaz 8-1.

M.Essa Jee secured victory against Amaan Garrison 8-2, while Farman Ali edged out M.Hamza Essa Jee 8-6.

Juniors U-18 singles qualifying saw Zayd Ali triumph over Khuzaima 8-0, Ahsan Ali defeat Hafiz Basit Ali 8-1, Zain Nomi beat Ahmed Kath 8-0 and Yahya Bin Zain overcome Hamza Essa Jee 8-0.

Main draw action in the men’s singles first round commenced with Laraib Shamsi defeating Shahmeer Usman 8-2 and Abdullah Tahseen beating Zeeshan Garrison 8-2.
