I’m sure this is not how you planned to start your Friday morning, but here it is.
Seattle Mariners announcer Dave Sims will eventually join the Yankees radio network, according to a New York City radio announcer.
Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina said on social media:
There’s some great radio going on right now on WFAN, where a caller claiming to be a doctor for a New York radio station claims to have been told by Suzyn Waldman that Dave Sims is the man to replace John Sterling as manager of the Yankees.

Right now, there’s no way to know if these are actually true, and what you hear from a sports radio caller can sometimes be just as trustworthy as hearing from a stranger on the street, but it’s still something to keep an eye on.
Here are the facts we know:
1) There are openings on the Yankees Radio Network:
Following the retirement of John Sterling earlier this season, the station has hired several replacements. These replacements are temporary, which could pave the way for another long-term hire, or one of the replacements could take the job permanently.
2) The Yankees Radio Network is prestigious.
Again, we don’t know if the Yankees Radio Network is interested in Sims or if Sims is interested in them, but being the voice of the Yankees radio certainly comes with a huge amount of prestige that no one can ignore.
3) Dave Sims is from the East Coast.
Sims is a Philadelphia native who has been with the Mariners since 2007, but there’s always the allure of returning to his hometown, where he spends most of the year on the East Coast playing in Big East basketball in the offseason, and where listeners will likely become familiar with him through the job.
Again, I don’t know if this is true, but it’s worth noting.
The Mariners will face the Royals on Friday at 6:05 pm PST.
