CHAKWAL:

A passenger bus on Sunday overturned on M-2 Motorway in Chakwal, resulting in the deaths of nine passengers and injuries to 31 others. The bus was carrying more than 40 passengers. The tragic incident took place near the Balkasar Interchange at the Dhoke Sial area.

According to eyewitnesses, the passenger bus — registration number JA-6871 — traveling from Islamabad to Lahore met with an accident after one of its tysres burst due to speeding.

The accident was so severe that eight passengers died on the spot and 31 others sustained serious injuries. One of the injured later succumbed to injuries while being shifted to the hospital, raising the death toll to nine.

Upon receiving the emergency call, Rescue 1122 teams promptly arrived at the scene, provided first aid to the injured and transferred them to nearby hospitals.

According to rescue officials, the crash was caused by speeding, negligence, and carelessness on the part of the driver.

Chakwal police also reached the site shortly after the accident. According to the police spokesperson, the injured included 17 men and 14 women. Among the deceased were two men, four women, an 8-year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl, and an 8-month-old infant.

Rescue 1122 teams from Chakwal shifted all injured individuals and the deceased to Chakwal’s District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) and Trauma Centre Kallar Kahar.

Chakwal Deputy Commissioner Madam Sarah Hayat and District Police Officer (DPO) Lt (retd) Ahmad Mohiuddin visited the hospital to inquire after the injured.

The DC instructed hospital staff to ensure the best possible medical treatment. According to the police spokesperson, DPO Mohiuddin has formed a special team to arrest the bus driver. Legal proceedings are underway, and the police have initiated a formal investigation into the incident.
