NEW DELHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has said that no deal has been offered to PTI founder Imran Khan, currently lodged in Adiala Jail, and he is ready to forgive all wrongdoings for the sake of Pakistan, a statement reported by the Pakistan-based Express Tribune newspaper.
Gohar Ali Khan was speaking to reporters outside the prison after meeting the former Pakistani prime minister at Adiala Jail. Stressing the need for dialogue, Gohar reiterated, “We have repeatedly said that we need to talk. No deal has been offered to the PTI founder. He is ready to forgive all the injustice done to him to take the country forward,” reported The Express Tribune.
Gohar Ali Khan also said that his lawyers had met Imran Khan in prison and legal steps were being taken based on their recommendations. He stressed that Imran Khan was not allowed to contact his sons and sought that he be allowed to talk to them every fortnight.
In his comments, the PTI leader criticised Pakistan Prime Minister Sharif’s recent visit to China, saying, “Despite his visit to China, Pakistan has not gained anything. The government has not been able to cover its expenses.” He urged the judiciary to fast-track the case against Imran Khan and stressed the importance of moving forward with negotiations.
During the T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Pakistan in New York on June 9, an aircraft carrying a banner reading “Free Imran Khan” was seen flying over the stadium. PTI shared a video of the incident under the handle X and captioned it, “Free Imran Khan.”
Imran Khan, 71, who served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 to 2022, has been lodged in Adiala Jail since August 2023 on several charges, including the Toshakhana case, the code case and the un-Islamic marriage case.
Pakistan held its 12th general election in February, but the fairness of the election has been questioned, particularly by the PTI, who claimed there was voting fraud and election inequality. Despite losing its election symbol, independent candidates backed by the PTI won a majority of the seats. However, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and other smaller parties came to power.
