Cubbies Eatery, located inside the Picnic convenience store, was forced to close for a day due to residual damage.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say a suspect broke into a Southtown convenience store and stole merchandise, including lottery tickets, before fleeing.

Cubby’s Eatery, located inside the Picnic convenience store, had to close for a day because of the damage left behind, and restaurant owner Jacob Campos said it has affected his livelihood.

He said he believes the two burglars put rocks in a bag and threw them at the window, thus gaining entry.

“They were in and out fast,” she said, “so they dumped it here, dropped it here, and all the glass flew everywhere, from here to where my sink is, so I had to close down.”

The convenience store is located on South Presa Street, just off South St. Mary’s Street, and the window that broke was right in front of the area where Campos prepares food.

“We’re a small company and we’ve lost our jobs,” he said. “I’m not working. I’m not getting paid.”

He said the two thieves had their faces covered and passed through his area before heading into the store.

“They come in and they start ransacking lottery tickets,” Campos said. “They come in and they just start grabbing and taking them.”

Campos said that during tough times, he has lost an entire day’s work at a time, and he just hopes that never happens again.

“I don’t want that to happen to any company,” he said.

San Antonio police reportedly said lottery tickets were stolen, along with cigarettes and other merchandise. Police reportedly plan to provide the serial numbers of the stolen tickets, along with the tickets, to the Texas Lottery Commission.
