Elections to the Maharashtra Assembly are held every two years to elect 11 members to the Maharashtra Assembly. The process of filing nominations has begun and interested candidates can file their nominations by July 2. Candidates can file their nominations at the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat. Examination of nomination papers will be held at Vidhan Bhawan, Mumbai on July 3. Candidates can also withdraw their candidature till July 5, 3 pm.

The biennial elections to elect 11 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly will be held on July 12 as the term of 11 MLCs ends on July 27, according to a statement by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Members Dr Manisha Shyamsunder Kayande, Vijay Vitthal Girkar, Abdullah Khan A Latif Khan Durrani, Nilay Madhukar Naik, Advisor Anil Dattatraya Parab, Ramesh Narayan Patil, Ramrao Balajirao Patil, Dr Wajahat Mirza Atal Mirza, Dr Pragya Rajeev Satav, Mahadev Jagannath Jankar and Jayant Prabhakar Patil will retire from the Legislative Council on July 27.

The voting will take place on July 12 from 9 am to 4 pm. The counting of votes will take place after 5 pm on the same day. The entire process will be completed by July 16, 2024.

All eyes are on this election as it will be held after the Lok Sabha elections. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the MVA won 31 of the 48 seats in Maharashtra while the BJP-led Mahayuti won 17. The alliance will be running a strong campaign for this state assembly election. The Maharashtra Assembly has 288 members and the Mahayuti has more members available to vote in the state assembly than the MVA.

The situation is said to have changed after the Lok Sabha elections. Many BJP workers blame Ajit Pawar for Mahayuti’s low number of seats. It will be interesting to see what the MVA will do to get more candidates elected.
