CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolinians are spending less money on sports betting than they did when the system first began, according to a new report.
According to the most recent figures from the North Carolina Lottery Commission, $398,251,464 was wagered by North Carolina residents or visitors during the month of June. Account holders won $354,742,263 during the same period.

The state has an 18 percent tax on gross gambling revenue, which means $40,302,263 was returned to the state from June gambling revenue.
Other states where sports betting has been legal for more than a year have seen similar drops in summer gambling revenue: Colorado, for example, saw just $281 million wagered in July 2023, then jump to $306 million in August, and then jump to $512 million in September when the football season began.
