Geo Castan hit a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Novato High School baseball team rallied from a four-run hole to win 5-4 over No. 10 Miramonte in the North Coast Section Division III playoffs. Tuesday.
The seventh-place Hornets (15-11) trailed 4-0 after the first two innings, but scored two runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the score at 4-4. Scott Rios singled in the seventh inning, setting the stage for Castan’s winning run.
Novato advanced to play second-seeded Sanmarin in the quarterfinals. The Mustangs are scheduled to host Friday at 5 p.m.
The Hornets started fighting back in the third inning when Castan was hit by a pitch and then Griffin Vorhaus gave up a walk. Rather than Volhaus scoring on a wild pitch, Castan scored on a pitcher’s error.
Novato loaded the bases in the fourth inning on back-to-back singles by Cash Campbell, Dominic Scafani and Trevor Cleary. The Hornets forced in a run on a fielder’s choice off Rios’ bat, then tied the game on Owen Van Baeren’s sacrifice bunt.
- Tyler Keene had four hits and Cole Chamberlain had two hits, including a home run, as No. 2 Sun Marin defeated No. 15 Annalee 7-2 in the D-III playoffs on Tuesday. San Marin (19-8) immediately attacked the Tigers, scoring four times in the first inning and twice in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Keene, Chamberlain and Matthew Baldino each had two RBIs Friday against San Marin, which hosts Novato at 5 p.m.

Redwood had no answer for Alhambra’s Keira Sullivan, who went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, as the Giants were eliminated in the first round of the NCS D-II playoffs on Tuesday.
Gia Meyers and Kate Christensen each had two hits and combined to generate Redwood’s scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Myers hit a double, followed by an RBI double by Christensen, tying the game at 1-1.
Alhambra (10-12) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning. Redwood pitcher Stella Belluomini pitched two innings, allowing three hits, three walks, two strikeouts and two earned runs. Lily Cox pitched the rest of the game for Redwood (17-9), allowing six hits and four earned runs with five strikeouts.
