OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Bay Area politicians and community leaders remembered the lives of Peggy Moore and Hope Wood, two women killed in a car crash in San Diego County over the weekend.

Former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said Moore was committed to his political work and had a true passion for helping others through policy.

“A lot of her friends and family are in shock, but they’re also somewhat relieved that she went quickly. They felt no pain and went right along with her,” Schaaf said. he said.

Moore and his wife, Hope Wood, died in a car accident Friday.

“She was a state secretary in the Obama administration and agreed to be the campaign manager for a first-term City Council member running against the incumbent in 2013-2014,” Schaaf said.

Mr. Moore was Mr. Schaaf’s campaign manager for his 2015 run for mayor of Oakland, and served as a senior adviser to Mr. Schaaf toward the end of his term. But most of all, Scharf remembers Moore as a close friend who loved people and made connections, he said.

“It doesn’t take me two hours to go anywhere with Peggy,” Schaaf said. “She knew everyone. For her, politics was deeply personal. It was about connecting across our differences. To increase the hope and just love we share. To.”

Oakland MP Barbara Lee Postd About her grief over the loss in Xshe says, is “heartbroken.”

“Peggy was a friend, an activist, and one of the best organizers I knew,” the post said. “Her passion and fight for justice and equality is what brought her and Hope together.”

Moore and Wood founded a political consulting firm called Hope Action Change in 2020. The couple met while campaigning for President Obama in 2008.

“She and Hope traveled throughout this county, especially California, to empower people,” Schaaf said.

Close family and friends held a wake for Moore and Wood last night in Lake Merritt.
KRON 4 reported that the couple got married.

KRON 4 reached out to the San Diego CHP to learn more about the incident.
