Columbus, Ohio police officers shot and killed a man Tuesday afternoon near 14th and Vliet streets in Milwaukee, about a mile from the Fiserv Forum, the main venue for the Republican National Convention. Witnesses told WISN 12 News that two men were fighting in King Park and one of them pulled out a knife. Witnesses said the man was startled when more police officers showed up. Witnesses said the man with the knife was shot at by multiple officers. This has yet to be confirmed by police. Numerous police officers, including Secret Service, are on scene. The Milwaukee County Coroner’s Office confirmed they were called to the scene at 2:50 p.m. No officers were injured, according to a statement from the Columbus Fraternal Order of Police. WISN 12 News Political Director Matt Smith spoke with Mayor Cavalier Johnson at the Republican National Convention. The mayor said he had just been briefed on the situation. The incident itself does not appear to be related to the Republican National Convention. A WISN 12 News source said the police perimeter has been extended to 17th Avenue and Fleet Street. WISN 12 News has crews on the scene working to gather more information.

Witnesses told WISN 12 News they saw two men fighting in King Park when one of them pulled out a knife. Witnesses said the men were surprised when multiple police officers showed up. Witnesses said the man with the knife was shot at by multiple officers. Police have yet to confirm this.
There is a large police presence at the scene, including the Secret Service.
The Milwaukee County Coroner’s Office confirmed they were called to the scene at 2:50 p.m.
No officers were injured, according to a statement from the Columbus Fraternal Order of Police.
This week, 63 police departments from 24 states and Washington, D.C., and 44 police agencies from Wisconsin are gathering in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention.
WISN 12 News Political Director Matt Smith spoke with Mayor Cavalier Johnson at the Republican National Convention and said the mayor had just been briefed on the situation.
The incident itself does not appear to be related to the Republican National Committee.
A police perimeter was extended to 17th Avenue and Fleet Street, according to a WISN 12 News source.
