Ohio State golfer Adam Wallin shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday to stay in the lead after three rounds of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Wallin recorded five birdies and three bogeys during his round to take the lead at five under par for the tournament, two strokes ahead of Virginia’s Ben James and Stanford’s Carl Billips.
“It was a really good day,” Wallin said. “I’m not sure exactly how many greens I hit, but I think it was about 16. It was a really good day. I didn’t make any mistakes and just played a good round of golf.”
As a team, the Buckeyes are in fifth place. The top eight teams in Monday’s final round will advance to a match-play format to determine the team champion. The Buckeyes are in pretty good form, eight strokes ahead of ninth-place Arizona and Georgia Tech.
It’s been a while since an OSU golfer has won an NCAA crown: Clark Burrows won the title in 1985, and he’s one of five OSU individual champions, including Jack Nicklaus in 1961.
Wallin and his Ohio State teammates will be paired with Florida State and North Carolina in Monday’s final round, starting from the first tee at 2:25 p.m. ET. Golf Channel will broadcast the final round from 6-10 p.m. ET.
