Opposition lawmakers vow to continue sit-in until jailed PTI leader is shifted for treatment

ISLAMABAD:

Opposition lawmakers’ sit-in outside Parliament House and K-P House entered its third day on Sunday, as protesters demanded that jailed PTI founder Imran Khan be provided urgent medical treatment for his eye condition. The demonstration began on Friday and has continued despite government assurances.

Lawmakers, led by National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Nasir Abbas, vowed the sit-in would not end until Khan was shifted for specialist care. Protesters have cited reports that his right-eye vision has deteriorated significantly and demanded treatment in the presence of his family and personal physicians.

Police deployed barbed wire and blocked access routes to the K-P House, and media personnel have not been allowed inside the protest sites. Unionists said provisions such as food and water were constrained for lawmakers inside Parliament House.

The sit-in has gained momentum amid mounting concern over Khan’s health. The PTI expressed deep concern over reports that he might be transferred to a hospital without informing his family, calling such actions a violation of legal procedures and human rights. His sister, Aleema Khan, confirmed a brief call arranged between Khan and his sons and reiterated calls for his immediate transfer to a hospital with qualified specialists.

On Saturday, government officials said they had decided to shift Khan to a hospital and form a medical board to oversee his care, and that further eye treatment would be carried out by specialists, with a detailed report to be submitted to the Supreme Court. The PTI, however, rejected any transfer without the consent of family members and personal physicians.

“Our demand has been clear from the beginning. Imran khan shall not be given any treatment WITHOUT the presence and approval of his personal doctors and family members.

We do NOT accept any medical board they set up and control!

We do NOT accept any reports or results they… https://t.co/6ehwH3k0Dp

The protests continue as opposition members press their demand that Khan receive comprehensive treatment, highlighting concerns over alleged delays and transparency in his medical care.
