Parking and storage facility provider Outpost, formerly Semi-Stowe, announced Thursday it is launching a new technology solution that will provide customers and truck yards with visibility into assets at the company’s current 21 truck yards.

Using both the company’s hardware and software, customers can now leverage computer vision technology, on-demand video and IoT devices to track parked assets and provide more efficient check-in and check-out systems that enable flexible booking, parking availability management, visibility into equipment status and enhanced security.

“Our customers range from small owner-operators to enterprise fleets, and we had the opportunity to talk to a variety of customers about what’s important to them, what their challenges are, and what they want from a technology platform. We couldn’t find a software-only solution that addressed their concerns, so we took a combined hardware and software approach to address their problems,” Greg Akselrod, Outpost’s chief technology officer, told FreightWaves in an interview.

Axelrod believes the technology represents a paradigm shift in the industry, transforming yards and parking lots from an operational constraint into a strategic advantage.

The hardware side includes components like pedestals, cameras and other sensors installed at Outpost facilities that allow real-time visibility of equipment, driver verification and seamless access control. The software ties it all together, allowing for instant booking and management of space through a user-friendly interface.

While the current announcement focuses on deploying the technology within Outpost’s network, Axelrod noted that the system is designed to be adaptable and interoperable.

“We built a hardware solution that can be efficiently installed regardless of the layout of the parking lot or the configuration of the gate system. The components that go into the kiosks and cameras were selected to be a platform for our vision of a shared network of parking lots that are full-service terminals, not just parking,” Axelrod said.

Outpost is currently testing the technology in three facilities and plans to accelerate the rollout across its network over the summer. Customers will receive an email shortly with information on how to access the new features via the Outpost website.
