The Ministry of Information on Wednesday rejected reports about the removal of barbed wire along the Pak-Afghan border, calling them “fabricated and baseless”.

In a post on X, the ministry’s fact-checking account denounced the reports as “fake claims propagated by the Afghan Taliban regime and mouthpieces of India’s RAW (Research and Analysis Wing)”.

It stated that the Pak-Afghan border—known as the Durand Line—stretches 2,640 kilometres and is secured by Pakistan.

“The Taliban regime works hand in glove with terrorists, smugglers and criminal mafia to infiltrate [it],” it said, adding that the complex dynamics of the border had already been explained several times by relevant security officials. The ministry’s post also cited a Nov 25 news briefing by DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, who highlighted cross-border terrorist infiltration and the challenges involved. He also said that Afghan forces open fire on Pakistani checkposts to facilitate terrorists’ entry into the country.

In its post, the ministry shared a screenshot from an X account called Afghanistan Defence, which quoted Afghan forces claiming that “operations to completely remove the barbed wire along the Durand Line are ongoing and progressing rapidly”. The post also included video clips showing men attempting to cut through what appeared to be a border fence.

The information ministry’s post said all “clips being uploaded by Taliban regime outlets are created content, dated and in line with kharjis/Taliban propaganda tactics of appearing for a few minutes to record content and then running away”.
