ISLAMABAD, May 21 (Xinhua) – Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari said in a recent interview with Chinese media that Pakistan has always chosen to be on the right side of history and that one China He said he complies with the principles.

Tuesday marks the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. Recalling the close relationship between previous generations of leaders of the two countries, Zardari said, “My late father-in-law, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, told his people to look east and look to China. I told him to turn around,” he said.

Zardari, who visited China nine times during his first term as Pakistan’s president, said there were “no conditions between us” and that Pakistanis loved China.

In his first interview with foreign media since being re-elected for a second term as Pakistan’s president in March, Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s position of rejecting any form of “Taiwan independence” and upholding the one-China principle.

“Taiwan is part of China. There is no other way,” the president said, adding that Pakistan will always stand with China and protect China’s core interests.

Commenting on the development of Gwadar Port, which is the starting point of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Zardari said that a lot has been done at Gwadar Port since the inception of CPEC 11 years ago, adding that the port has always been He pointed out that investors are welcome. Zardari said Pakistan was encouraging more schools to include Chinese language in their compulsory curriculum. He stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and called for more policies to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries.

Appreciating the development achievements of the Chinese people, Zardari said ensuring policy continuity was one of the main reasons for China’s success, adding that Pakistan was keen to be more involved in China’s development process.

“Long live the friendship between Pakistan and China!” Zardari said in Chinese at the end of the interview.■
