Islamabad calls on Yemeni parties to engage constructively, warns against unilateral steps amid territorial crisis

Pakistan has expressed full support for Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic efforts to ensure peace and stability in Yemen, while also commending the role of the United Arab Emirates in the process.

“Pakistan is closely following the recent developments in Yemen,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. The statement comes amid a sharp escalation in Yemen, where the Southern Transitional Council (STC) seized control of two major eastern provinces in early December.

Saudi Arabia publicly demanded the STC’s withdrawal from the provinces on Thursday, calling it an “unjustified escalation,” while the STC accused Riyadh of launching air strikes against their positions on Friday. The STC now effectively controls most of the former “South Yemen,” raising fears of renewed conflict in a civil war that has been ongoing since 2014.

The Foreign Office underscored the need for upholding Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, expressing hope that “the Yemeni stakeholders will avoid any unilateral steps that may result in further escalation of the situation.”

Pakistan has called on all Yemeni parties to engage with one another constructively and in good faith, towards a negotiated political solution that is based on agreed parameters.

“Pakistan expresses its hope that the ongoing diplomatic efforts will result in concrete steps towards achieving lasting peace in the country, and in bringing an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people,” the statement concluded.
