Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz was slammed by fans on social media after he dropped a regulation catch during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) match against India at Edgbaston. Wahab, who is the current chief selector of the Pakistan men’s senior team, was visibly disappointed after dropping the crucial ball. The incident occurred in India’s final over with Pakistan’s victory already secured. This happened after Anureet Singh smashed Aamer Yamin’s ball into the sky.
Wahab had enough time to calmly catch the ball but it somehow flew out of his hand. The dropped ball drew criticism from Wahab and fans questioned his position as the chief selector of the senior men’s team.
Here’s how the internet responded:
The incident did not affect the outcome of the match, with Pakistan Champions going on to win a landslide victory over Yuvraj Singh’s Indian Champions by 68 runs.
This is his third consecutive win at the World Championship of Legends 2024, currently being held at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
After India were put in to bat, Pakistan posted a commanding total of 243/4 thanks to the efforts of openers Sharjeel Khan and Kamran Akmal, who both scored 145 runs.
Sharjeel hit seven fours and five sixes to score a staggering 72 off 30 balls, while Akmal scored 77 off 40 balls before being run out by Pawan Negi in the 14th over.
Sohaib Maqsood also scored a respectable 51 runs in 26 balls, hitting five sixes and two fours.
In reply, India started chasing hard but continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.
Suresh Raina fought a lonely battle, scoring 52 off 40 balls, but was shut out by Sohail Tanvir.
