The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a stern warning to a fan who got into an altercation with the team’s veteran cricketer Haris Rauf. The Pakistan fast bowler was with his wife after the team’s defeat in the T20 World Cup 2024 when he got into an altercation with a fan. As the video of the incident went viral on social media, opinions were divided, with some supporting and others condemning Rauf’s reaction. Now, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also reacted to the incident, asking the fan to apologise or face legal action.

“We strongly condemn the horrific incident involving Haris Rauf. Such behaviour towards our player is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Those involved must immediately apologise to Haris Rauf or we will take legal action against those responsible,” Naqvi said in a statement on social media.

Rauf himself took to social media after seeing his video go viral. “As public figures, we are open to any feedback from the public,” he wrote to X. “They have the right to support or criticize us. However, when it comes to my parents and family, I will respond accordingly without hesitation. It is important to show respect to people and their families, regardless of their profession.”

Pakistan fans are extremely upset with the early end to their team’s campaign. Pakistan ended their streak of the T20 World Cup 2024 with a three-wicket win over Ireland in Florida on Sunday. The match was deemed meaningless as India and USA in Group A had already qualified for the Super 8 stage.

Pakistan, drawn in Group A, were on the brink of elimination after losing consecutive matches to co-hosts USA and then rivals India. The loss to Ireland vs USA was the final nail in the coffin for Pakistan.

Babar Azam’s side bounced back with two straight wins but it was not enough to overturn the crushing defeat and book their place in the next round.
