After the positive reviews of 2022’s “Joyland” and last year’s “Burning,” Pakistan will debut as the central hub of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Pakistan Crescent Collective, founded by Modoxy Media, is dedicated to “discovering and nurturing the next generation of talent, preserving film, and
Promote Pakistani and diaspora films globally and thereby develop Pakistan’s visual culture. ” The collective is comprised of a global team of film industry professionals based in London, Karachi, New York and Los Angeles.
Joyland, directed by Saim Sadiq, won the 2022 Un Certain Regard Jury Award, while Zaral Khan’s The Fire was selected as Directors of the Week. Both films were officially submitted by Pakistan for the Academy Awards. Ousmane Riaz’s animated film The Glassworker, selected at Annecy, pays homage to cinema in the style of Studio Ghibli, this year’s honorary Palme d’Or winner.
Pakistan Crescent Collective will host a filmmaker panel discussion and event after the screening of The Glassworker at Cannes Film Market.
In addition, the collective is co-hosting the opening ceremony and reception for the South Asian Film Market launched by Seattle’s Oscar-nominated Tasveer Film Festival. Tasveer and Pakistan Crescent Collective will co-host a speed networking event on the terrace of the American Pavilion, where film production teams will meet with film financiers and financiers to promote their next projects before inviting all attendees to A cocktail sundowner reception will be held. This event is part of Global Lens Day at the America Pavilion.
