
IMechE Pakistan Group’s Northern Panel Quarterly Meeting for Q2-2024 was successfully held on 13th July.
The hybrid event was held in-person at the National Science and Technology Park (NSTP) at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, and also online. The organising committee met to discuss future plans, initiatives and strategies to enhance engagement and development of young engineers.
Strategic Planning and Budgeting
The newly elected Northern Panel Committee for the 2024-2025 session, which includes Chief Secretary Ibrahim Khan and Deputy Chairman Emad Uddin, led discussions on several key areas.
Youth participation promotion activitiesYM Chair Owais Azhar shared ideas to rekindle interest in engineering, especially mechanical engineering, among young students. A comprehensive policy involving faculty sponsors and the YM panel has been developed, and he highlighted the importance of workshops, expert podcasts, and speaking events focusing on current engineering trends.
Annual activity scheduleA detailed schedule of annual activities was proposed, aimed at providing diverse events to keep students interested and informed about the latest developments in the field of engineering.
Proposal for an event that combines AI and industry
Professor Abdul Shakur, Faculty Sponsor, IMechE UET Peshawar Student Branch, presented a compelling proposal for a chain event centered on AI and industry convergence.The initiative aims to strengthen the relationship between academia and industry by promoting collaborative projects and innovative solutions.
Launch of SRS and proposal for an international conference
Structured Registration System (SRS): The committee discussed the initiation of SRS in local universities. The scheme entails active participation of faculty members and aims to promote research, professional development and innovation among students.
International IMechE Congress 2026: Northern Panel Chairman Hassan G. Ansari proposed to host an international IMechE conference in the Northern region by 2026. This ambitious plan aims to raise the profile of the region and foster international collaboration within the engineering community.
