The Government of Pakistan has launched the Centre of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA), a major initiative to accelerate growth in the country’s creative technology industry. With a total investment of Rs 2.52 billion, the project is being administered by the Ignite National Technology Fund and executed by HUM Networks, marking a significant step in developing local talent and enterprises in gaming, animation, and digital media.

After multiple rounds of technical and financial evaluations, HUM Networks was awarded the project in May 2025, and a formal contract was signed in mid-July. The project has been planned and implemented under the rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority to ensure transparency.

Over its five-year term, CEGA will incubate 200 startups and provide training opportunities for 10,000 young people across Pakistan. It will also provide co-working spaces, access to development tools and modern equipment, and mentorship programs designed to prepare participants for global competition.

Pakistan’s gaming and animation sector is already showing signs of growth. The industry generated about 170 million dollars in revenue last year and currently employs more than 8,000 professionals. With more than 30,000 ICT graduates entering the workforce annually, along with a large, young and English-speaking population, the country has a strong foundation to scale its creative industries.

During the launch event at NED University in Karachi, the government emphasized the potential of CEGA to elevate Pakistan’s share in the global gaming and animation markets. Officials also announced plans for a one-billion-rupee Virtual Production Studio to support the centre’s activities and further strengthen the ecosystem for digital content creation.

Industry experts believe CEGA can serve as a catalyst for innovation, linking creative arts with technology to help Pakistan gain visibility in the regional and international creative economy. By providing structured support for startups, skills training and access to infrastructure, the centre aims to create new opportunities for youth while positioning Pakistan as an emerging hub in gaming and animation.
