Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb released the country’s Economic Survey for 2023-24, detailing socio-economic achievements during the previous fiscal year. According to the Economic Survey, Pakistan will miss its growth targets for 2023-24, with GDP growth at just 2.38% against a target of 3.5%. This is mainly due to the poor performance of the industry and services sectors, while agriculture outperformed all other sectors, registering a growth of 6.25%.
“Strong growth in the agriculture sector, the highest in the last 19 years, has emerged as the main driver of economic growth in FY24,” Muhammad Aurangzeb said.
The survey also showed that Pakistan’s inflation will fall to 11.8 percent and its GDP at current market prices will increase to Rs106.45 trillion in fiscal year 2024, up 26.4 percent from last fiscal year (Rs83.875 trillion).
The country’s finance minister also said the government is committed to selling loss-making state-owned enterprises and will privatize national carrier Pakistan International Airlines.
