State assembly by-election results: Indian National Congress leads in Himachal, Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Party lead in Bengal
With vote counting underway, the BJP is leading in Nalagarh and Dehra constituencies in Himachal Pradesh, and Badrinath and Manglar constituencies in Uttarakhand. The BJP is also leading in Awarwala constituency in Madhya Pradesh. Dheeran Invati is leading with 4,541 votes. Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukh, is leading with 6,115 votes as of 11 am. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Ashish Sharma is leading in Hamirpur constituency with 743 votes. Bloc takes lead in Indian parliamentary by-elections
According to the Election Commission (EC) website, candidates of the Indian coalition (Indian National Congress, AAP, TMC and DMK) are leading in 11 of the 13 seats where by-polls were held earlier this week. The BJP is leading in Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, while its partner, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) JD(U), is leading in Rupauli in Bihar. Voting took place on Wednesday in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Tamil Nadu. In Punjab, AAP’s Mohinder Bhagat is leading Indian National Congress’ Surinder Kaur by more than 23,000 votes in the Jalandhar West by-election. In West Bengal, TMC candidates Krishna Kalyani, Mukut Nami Adhikari, Madhuparna Thakur and Suputi Pandey are leading in Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda and Maniktala respectively. The BJP is far behind in all four seats. In Himachal Pradesh, Congress candidates Kamlesh Thakur and Hardeep Singh Bawa are leading in Dera and Nalagarh respectively. BJP’s Ashish Sharma is leading in Hamirpur.

Section 144 comes into force in Gandatwitha, Tripura
Dhalai district administration has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 in Gandatwisa area (formerly Gandacherra) following the murder committed by four miscreants. Officials on Friday confirmed that four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. “All four persons involved in the death have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The attacked person died on Friday. The body has been taken away. Considering the security situation, prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been issued from Friday morning,” Dhalai district magistrate Saju Vaheed said. To ensure public safety and control the situation, personnel of CRPF and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have been deployed in the area. Magistrate Vaheed assured that the situation is now under control.
