Around seven workers were killed by gunmen while sleeping in a residential area near Fish Harbor on Wednesday night in Gwadar, Pakistan’s Punjab province, a news agency reported. Reutersone additional person was injured.
Police identified the victims and said the workers were from Sahiwal, Punjab. Police transported the injured to a hospital for treatment and launched an investigation to arrest the perpetrators.

Police sources said the gunmen stormed a house about 25 kilometers (25 kilometers) east of the port city and shot dead the workers. However, no one claimed responsibility.
In early April, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed to have killed nine workers in Punjab. They were abducted and shot at point-blank range after gunmen stopped the bus.
The report said the insurgents have been fighting the government for years for a greater share of the mineral-rich state’s natural resources.

Pakistan’s Gwadar port is home to several projects supported by the Chinese government under the $65 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor investment. This is part of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Meanwhile, a man was arrested in Gujarat’s Bharuch district on suspicion of being a spy for Pakistan’s intelligence agencies. P.T.I. Police said the announcement was made on Thursday.

According to the Gujarat Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the man has been identified as Pravin Mishra, who is suspected of collecting confidential information about the Indian Army and defense research and development companies.
“Mishra, a resident of Ankleshwar in Bharuch district and a native of Muzaffarpur in Bihar, communicated with Pakistani intelligence personnel through Whatsapp calls and voice chats to carry out a criminal conspiracy against Pakistan that could have serious security implications.
