Pakistan’s early elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 has caused a social media frenzy, with Babar Azam and his teammates coming under fire on social media. Internet outrage intensified when a video of Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf getting into an altercation with a fan was surfaced on social media. Amid the controversy, several of Rauf’s teammates took to X (formerly Twitter) to show their support. After seeing Rauf’s teammates posting in support of Rauf, Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad shared a scathing post.

Shehzad, who has been in the news in recent weeks for his harsh criticism of Babar Azam and his team, said the players should apologise to their fans instead of posting in support of Haris Rauf. Shehzad also called on Pakistan cricketers to call off their holidays abroad and return to their home country.

“We fully condemn what happened to Haris Rauf but it is also important that fans remove the posts that players put up in support of Haris following his poor performance at the World Cup. That should have been done as an apology,” he said.

Shehzad believes Pakistan’s under-fire cricketers are trying to sway public opinion with such posts – instead, they should take responsibility after not winning anything in five years.

“Hopefully these players will apologise to the nation, feel ashamed and return home to Pakistan instead of holidaying in America, England or Dubai. These posts by players should not change the narrative and fans should be briefed on the players’ poor performance.”

“Accountability is very important now. These same players have not won anything for our country in the last five years. They continue to prioritise personal achievements over the overall success of Pakistan,” Shehzad added.
