‘Enough is enough’: Ex-PM Khan urges supporters to wait for calls from prison to take to the streets
ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday announced the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) leader and Director of Central Intelligence Raof Hassan in front of the party’s office. Hassan was assaulted by a group of unidentified transgender people on Tuesday, with one of the assailants brandishing a knife and others slamming her to the ground, leaving her with cuts on her face. PTI described the incident as an attempt on Hassan’s life and accused Islamabad police of omitting and falsifying terrorism charges in the chargesheet.

Reacting to the developments, Khan, who has been jailed since his arrest in August last year, said his party was facing “political persecution” and would not tolerate it any longer.
“During the past two darkest years in Pakistan’s history, the PTI’s political persecution has continued with total impunity,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We were subjected to collective punishment, a prohibited means of war. Our homes were broken into, our citizens were killed and tortured, our businesses were destroyed, and even the elderly and children were not spared. We have endured with great patience for Pakistan. But enough is enough!! The heinous attack on Rauf Hassan is so inflammatory that those in power are open to dissent. It further shows that they are unwilling to do so and would rather resort to dirty tactics than address the underlying issues.”

Khan said he has repeatedly said it is not possible to achieve economic stability without first striving for political stability in the country.
He argued that in the past two years, since his government was ousted from power in a no-confidence vote in April 2022, he has witnessed a deterioration in the economic situation of ordinary people.
PTI said Khan has been facing state repression especially since May 9, 2023, when riots erupted after he was briefly jailed by an Islamabad court on corruption charges.
