ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed the need to root out elements spreading uncertainty and instability in the country as his cash-strapped government faces pressure from the party of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.
Sharif made these remarks on Saturday during a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League (N) parliamentary leader in the Senate and Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Senator Irfan Siddiqui, in an apparent reference to the opposition party. ARY News report.
Without naming any particular political party, the prime minister stressed that the government and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) must be mindful to evolve an effective strategy to quash any coordinated campaign against government, provincial and national security institutions.
Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party is opposed to the government on all fronts, alleging that the PML-N has stolen the people’s mandate in the February 8 general elections.
The Prime Minister congratulated Senator Irfan Siddiqui on his election as Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and hoped that under his leadership, the committee would pay special attention to projecting a positive, peaceful and constructive image of Pakistan in the world.
