Pakistan squad reaches Turin for World Winter Special Games – Sport

ISLAMABAD: A 25-member Pakistan contingent on Friday reached Italian city of Turin to participate in the 16th World Winter Special Games commencing there on Saturday.

Delegations from various countries, including Pakistan, have arrived in Turin to participate in the grand opening ceremony of the Games, said a press release.

Earlier, the Special Olympics Italy officials welcomed the Pakistani contingent upon their arrival at Milan Airport. The World Games will take place from March 8 to 15 in Turin featuring over 1,500 athletes from more than 93 countries, along with 2,000 volunteers.

Pakistan’s delegation includes 10 athletes (five male and as many female), along with coaches, officials, medical staff, and youth leaders.

The country’s athletes will compete in snowshoeing and cross-country skiing events the Games. Additionally, six female members of the delegation will represent the country at the Global Youth Leadership Summit (GYLS).

Upon reaching Turin, Pakistan athlete Mohammad Afaq Khan expressed his excitement.

“Representing Pakistan at the international level is a great honour for us,” Afaq said.

Meanwhile, athlete Mohammad Moazzam Iqbal said, “We have come with the spirit of victory for Pakistan.”

Another athlete Tabassum Ahmed also shared his enthusiasm.

“Fully motivated and determined to deliver a great result for the nation,” he said.

Pakistan coaches Erum Majeed and Mohammad Irfan emphasised that participating in such a mega event will help the athletes enhance their skills and experience.

Head of the delegation, Farkhunda Jabeen, said the Pakistan athletes had prepared extensively for the World Winter Games.
