The T20 World Cup 2024 aims to take cricket to new heights apart from being the most inclusive global tournament with 20 teams. The tournament will be hosted in the West Indies and the United States, marking the first time that the United States will host a cricket tournament of this magnitude.

Teams are still getting to grips with the conditions in North America, which are different to major cricket venues.

In that regard, Pakistan has a huge advantage at the 2024 T20 World Cup thanks to the valuable experience gained by seven of their players in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), while 10 of their players have also played in Major League Cricket (MLC).

India’s experience in the region is limited as the BCCI does not allow Indian players to play in foreign franchise leagues – no Indian player has played in the CPL or MLC.

Who are the Pakistani players who have excelled in the CPL?

Imad Wasim and Mohammed Amir have both had impressive performances in the CPL with Imad taking 61 wickets at an economy rate of 6.20 and Amir taking 43 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 6.50 in the league.

Other Pakistani players who have played in the CPL include Salman Irshad, Saim Ayub and Azam Khan.

Pakistan’s wealth of CPL experience extends beyond bowling, with batsmen like Shoaib Malik bringing knowledge and experience, as evidenced by his legendary 2019 season with Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Who are the Pakistan players who have featured in MLC 2023?

The 10 Pakistani players who participated in MLC 2023 are: Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Nauman Anwar, Mukhtar Ahmed, Saad Ali, Hammad Azam, Ehsan Adil, Saif Badal and Sami Aslam.

How has the CPL impacted Pakistan cricket?

Despite its limited viewership in Pakistan, the CPL has become a focus for Pakistan cricket authorities and players, whose players are banned from playing in the Indian Premier League and are therefore exploring other franchise leagues to play in.

The CPL has given Pakistani players tactical insight as they have taken advantage of wind conditions and adapted their bowling strategy depending on the behaviour of the pitch, which could prove crucial in the World Cup.

What advantage does Pakistan’s experience give it over India?

Pakistan is in a strong position to face India in the 2024 T20 World Cup thanks to the valuable experience their players have gained in the CPL and MCL. Meanwhile, India, though a strong team, lacks the experience in similar conditions that Pakistan is accustomed to. It will be interesting to see how these arch-rivals face off on June 9.

When is India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match?

The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan will be held at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9. The match is scheduled to start at 8 pm Indian Standard Time.
