“Pakistan reaffirmed its strong commitment to the SCO Charter and principles, conveyed its support for SCO expansion and reform, and called for joint action towards socio-economic development, strengthening cooperation, maintaining peace and security, fighting terrorism, addressing climate change, alleviating poverty, and above all ensuring observance of the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and the right to self-determination. It called for the resolution of the long-standing conflicts through UN Security Council resolutions. It urged peace in Gaza and peace and stability in Afghanistan. Pakistan looks forward to welcoming the SCO family to the SCO Summit to be held in Islamabad in October this year,” he added.
Incidentally, today the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit began in Astana under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan.
The SCO Council Meeting is expected to adopt the Astana Declaration and three leaders’ statements, including “World Unity for Just Peace, Harmony and Development” and “Strengthening the SCO”.
The event will be attended by heads of state and government of Kazakhstan, India, Iran, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey and Turkmenistan, as well as SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming.
