Pakistan on Friday announced Test matches and three one-day series against Bangladesh, England and the West Indies in a packed schedule that stretches until February next year.

Bangladesh will first visit Pakistan in August for two Test matches, followed by three Test matches against England in October and two Test matches against the West Indies in January.

This will be followed by three one-day series in February ahead of the eight-nation Champions Trophy tournament, also due to be held in late February and March.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the interior minister, said the schedule demonstrated the country’s commitment to hosting international matches.

No foreign teams played in Pakistan between 2009 and 2015 after militants attacked the Sri Lankan team bus, wounding seven players and killing eight.

“These series are a key part of our strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s position in international cricket and ensure the long-term sustainability of the sport in the country,” Naqvi said in a statement.

Due to improved security, Pakistan has been able to host major cricketing nations such as Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa for the last four years.

The Champions Trophy tournament will be the first major cricket event to be held in the country since it co-hosted the World Cup with India and Sri Lanka in 1996.

The PCB said the match schedule for the tournament, which will be played from February 19 to March 9, will be announced at a later date.
