A Pakistani court on Tuesday rejected a petition seeking the disqualification of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan for allegedly providing false information when filing candidate papers for the 2018 general election.
The petition, filed by an individual named Mohammad Sajid, was filed by the 71-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, who was identified as his daughter in the candidate papers he submitted to contest the 2018 general elections. He claimed that he did not reveal anything about Tyrian. Geo News reported.
Khan’s PTI party won the 2018 general election, and the former cricketer-turned-politician served as Pakistan’s prime minister from August 2018 to April 2022.
Mr Sajid claimed Mr Khan had provided false information when he submitted his candidacy for the 2018 general election.
The case had been pending since May 2023 after its hearing before a three-member bench of the Islamabad High Court was canceled by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.
The new IHC court took up the plea on Tuesday. During the hearing, the court denied Mr. Khan’s motion for disbarment in the case.
The petition claims that although the former prime minister has three children, he only mentioned two in newspapers and hid the existence of a third child.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the PTI founder did not declare Tilian as his daughter in the affidavit filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The petitioner alleges that the reason Mr. Khan did not marry Seeta White, the mother of Mr. Tillian, his alleged lover, was because her father had told Mr. Khan that he would not receive any money from his property even if he married Seeta. He claimed that this was because he had told him that he would not receive any money.
The petition, titled “Imran v. Imran – The Untold Story,” also claimed that custody of Tillian was awarded to Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith.
She added that in her will dated February 27, 2004, Sita named Jemima as her daughter Tyrian’s guardian. Sita died on May 13 of that year.
“Jemima Goldsmith was the spouse of Imran Khan (1995 to 2004)… The concealed facts were confirmed by a paternity decree entered by the Superior Court of California in favor of Theta White that defendant (Imran Khan) was the father of Tyrian Jade,” the petition read.
