Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended following the 2024 T20 World Cup victory. It was a new chapter for the team as Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma had also announced their retirement from T20Is. The names of WV Raman and National Cricket Academy (NCA) president VVS Lakshman were floated but Gambhir eventually emerged as the front-runner. While the move was welcomed by most experts and fans, former Pakistan cricketer Tanveer Ahmed believes Gambhir was not suited for the role.

Tanveer commented on Gambhir’s appointment on social media,Parthi‘ Condemning the incident, he added that VVS Laxman, who had coached the young players, should have been appointed head coach.

words ‘ParthiThis refers to someone who puts together a team based on “sources and recommendations.”

“VVS Lakshman has been the coach of India B team for a long time and should have been made the head coach of the Indian team. Gautam Gambhir’s appointment seems like a ‘parchi’ case,” the former Pakistan cricket team star posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, new head coach Gautam Gambhir took charge of the Indian men’s cricket team on Tuesday and the team got off to a strong start in their first training session ahead of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Gambhir, who took over from legendary coach Rahul Dravid, led the team onto the ground and oversaw a training session which included fielding drills and working with the players.

The training session mainly consisted of running, catching and one-on-one interactions. New T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav also interacted with the players. Gambhir shared batting tips with Sanju Samson and was seen chatting with all-rounder Shivam Dube.
