Colorado basketball star Alexandra Eschmeyer has been selected to play for USA Basketball’s under-17 girls team for the FIBA World Cup in July, and she’s ecstatic.
Sunday’s announcement came after the peak-to-peak 6-foot-5 high school senior spent four days last week at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

The Stanford University commit competed against some of the best players from around the country and was one of 12 players selected from a field of 42 invited to compete.
“It’s such an amazing opportunity and honor to be selected for the team,” she said. “(It’s) a goal I’ve worked so hard for.”
Eschmeyer said she plans to return to the USA Basketball facility in July before the team leaves for Mexico, where the FIBA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held from July 13-21.
This marks another highlight for her with Team USA.
A year ago, Eschmeyer was a finalist for the U-16 AmeriCup national team but was not selected.
In March, she traveled to Portland, Oregon, to participate in a minicamp for top high school seniors.
“To be able to represent USA Basketball along with the other members of the (selected) team means a lot to me,” she said.
Eschmeyer, who recorded 1,392 points and 888 rebounds in his three years with the Pumas, will look to lead the USA U-17 Team to their sixth gold medal in seven tries with a 40-1 overall record in the tournament.
They will face Australia in their opening group stage match on July 13 at 8pm local time.
