The 2024 America Southern Softball Tournament is coming to a close, with top-seeded Pfeifer winning for the second year in a row. On Friday, the Falcons defeated second-seeded Greensboro 4-2, 3-1 in the best-of-three championship series.
In the first match, Pfeiffer jumped on Greensboro with one run in the first inning and held on until the Pride tied things up at the top of the sixth frame. The Falcons fought back and came out on top thanks to a Gracie Griffin home run and two subsequent insurance scores.
Pfeiffer needed those runs, as Emma Bullin sealed the win with an inside-the-circle save after Greensboro scored one run in the top of the seventh inning to load the bases. Kari Morton pitched 6.1 innings for the win.
In Game 2, the Falcons appeared on the scoreboard as the visiting team, scoring two runs in their first at-bat, but the Pride got one back later in the inning. The score remained 2-1 until Pfeiffer added one run on Emma Chopko’s home run in the top of the sixth inning. Bullin again appeared as a reliever and pitched five scoreless innings, earning the victory and giving Pfeiffer the tournament title.
Pfeiffer earned an automatic bid from America South to the NCAA Division III Tournament. First round matches begin Thursday.
The NCAA selection show will be held Monday at 11 a.m.
