The post Phillies place Harper and Schwarber on 10-day disabled list appeared first on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Phillies players Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber were both taken from the field in Thursday night’s loss to the Miami Marlins, but both escaped serious injuries, a source told NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark.

In announcing roster changes for Friday night’s game against the Marlins, the Phillies said Harper has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring injury and Schwarber has also been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left groin injury.

Infielder Cody Clemens also returned from a rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and was activated off the 10-day disabled list. The Phillies also recalled outfielder Johan Rojas from Lehigh Valley.

Harper limped off the field with an apparent hamstring injury after making the final out of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Thursday night.

Harper rushed down the line to get a grounder to the right side, then after crossing first base he reached his left hamstring and limped to the dugout.

“I just felt a little bit of muscle soreness under my hamstring. I’ll get some scans tomorrow and see how it feels,” Harper said Thursday. “We’ll see how it feels tomorrow and go from there.”

Meanwhile, Schwarber left the game in the ninth inning after feeling pain in his left groin after making an awkward throw from the outfield. Normally a designated hitter, Schwarber started in left field, but this was just his third appearance in that role this season.

“I was trying to grab the ball with my bare hands, got ready to throw, and I felt the ball get stuck,” Schwarber said. “At first I thought it was just a cramp and finished the inning, but then I still felt a little pain while I was running (between innings), so I talked to my trainer and he said he didn’t like where it was and wanted to take me out of there.”

“I’ve never had a soft-tissue injury before,” said Harper, who said he felt something strange about halfway down the first base line. Asked how worried he was, he was cautious.

“I don’t know,” he said. “Like I said, I’ve never felt anything like this before. It hurts.”

The injury occurred after Harper was voted by fans to start at first base in the National League in the All-Star Game in Texas on July 16. Schwarber is one of six Philadelphia players on the final list to start at their position in the upcoming voting.

Harper is batting .303 with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs.
