Voting for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections began at 7 am today, with over 1.1 crore people voting to elect the new government in 93 constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories (UTs). It is expected. At the end of Phase 3, the fate of more than 280 of the 543 constituencies will be decided. Election results will be announced on June 4th.
Who will vote today? Five states – Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat and Karnataka – are scheduled to complete voting in the third phase. In Gujarat, BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal from Surat has already won unopposed after all other candidates were rejected or withdrawn. The remaining 25 seats in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, 11 in Maharashtra, 10 in Uttar Pradesh and four in West Bengal will go to polls. Two seats in the UTs of Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and nine seats in Madhya Pradesh will also go to polls today. The stakes are high for the ruling BJP, which won an overwhelming majority of these seats, including all states of Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
