DRAS: Warning Pakistan that its sinister designs to foment a proxy war will be crushed with all force by Indian security forces, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said “supporters of terror” from across the border would be able to make his voice heard loud and clear from the heights of Kargil.

“Pakistan has not learnt any lessons from its past defeats and continues to wage wars under the guise of terrorism and proxy wars to maintain its presence,” Modi said while speaking at the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations in Drass to mark 25 years since India’s victory in the conflict.

“Today, I am speaking from a place where the sponsors of terror can hear me. I want to tell you that their evil designs will never succeed. Our valiant soldiers will crush terrorism with all their might. The enemy will get a befitting retribution,” he added. His remarks came amid a surge in terror attacks in the Jammu region by Pakistan-backed organisations.

The prime minister said he was fortunate to be among the soldiers as a “civilian” during the 1999 Kargil conflict. “Now, once again standing at the sacred ground of Kargil, it brings back memories of how our soldiers successfully executed the arduous operation at these heights. I salute the brave sons of the nation,” he said. At the time, India was doing all it could for peace, but Pakistan was indulging in duplicity as its soldiers crossed the Line of Control and took up positions in fortified positions. “In Kargil, we not only won the war but also set a shining example of ‘Truth, Restraint and Strength’,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that India will overcome all challenges impeding development in both Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir and said, “In a few days, on August 5, it will be five years since Article 370 of the Indian Constitution was revoked. Jammu and Kashmir is talking about a new future full of dreams.” Along with infrastructure development, the tourism sector is also growing rapidly in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. “After decades, a cinema hall opened in Kashmir. After 35 years, the first Tazia procession took place in Srinagar,” PM Modi said.
