“Temperatures in the 90s and high humidity will increase the chances of heatstroke, especially for those participating in outdoor activities over the Fourth of July,” the weather service warned.
If you’re outdoors for an extended period of time, be sure to stay hydrated and take breaks.

We’re seeing a return to typical Mid-Atlantic summer weather, just in time for some unpleasant Independence Day weather. After average temperatures on Wednesday, it’s going to get a lot hotter over the next few days. If that’s not enough to get you in the mood, there’s also high humidity and a chance of storms in the afternoon and evening.

Until tonight: Partly cloudy skies will continue into the evening. A south wind gusting around 10 mph will bring increased humidity. Lows will settle in the 70 to 75 degrees for most locations.

Tomorrow (Independence Day): There will be plenty of sunshine in the morning, with clouds building up during the day. Temperatures will likely be near 90 degrees Fahrenheit by noon. Highs will reach the mid-90s in surrounding areas, with temperatures in the low to mid-90s across the region. Dew points, a measure of humidity, will rise into the 70s, with highs feeling like over 100 degrees.
Scattered storms will develop during the afternoon and continue into the evening. Some storms will be severe and may bring brief heavy rainfall, localized flooding, lots of lightning, and locally gusty winds.
People should keep in mind that they may need to go indoors, but it is currently unlikely that rain will fall in time for the fireworks, although rain will still likely continue.
