A police convoy was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Doaba area of Hangu on Sunday, leaving three officers injured, including Station House Officer (SHO) Imranuddin, police officials confirmed.

According to police sources, the convoy was returning from a peace committee meeting when it came under attack. Senior officials, including Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Abdul Samad, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tall Mujahid, and SHO Imranuddin, were travelling in the convoy at the time.

Following the explosion, a gun battle broke out between police personnel and the attackers. SHO Imranuddin and two other police officials sustained injuries during the incident. The exchange of fire was still ongoing at the time of reporting.

SP Abdul Samad said the attack was carried out using an IED planted along the convoy’s route.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took notice of an IED attack on a police vehicle in Hangu and sought a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police.

The chief minister directed authorities to provide immediate and proper medical treatment to the injured police officials.

In a statement, Afridi praised the resolve and professionalism of the police personnel and instructed law enforcement agencies to tighten security across the province and closely monitor suspicious elements.
