PESHAWAR:

A terrorist attack was repelled on early Monday morning on the Fatah Khel check post by police in Bannu after a late-night attempt by terrorists to target the facility, police confirmed.

Officials said the attack was thwarted due to the alertness and timely response of personnel stationed at the post.

They said that at around 2:00am, suspicious movement of more than 15 terrorists was detected around the Fatah Khel check post through thermal cameras. The suspects were attempting to take positions in a forested area in front of the post.

Police personnel, who were already on high alert, opened fire, forcing the attackers to retreat under the cover of darkness.

The Bannu Deputy Inspector General praised the personnel involved in the operation. “They have proven they are ready to deal with any emergency situation at all times,” he said, adding that the timely use of modern technology and the vigilance of the officers had foiled the militants’ plans.

He also announced commendation certificates and cash rewards for the police team, while a search operation was underway in the area to trace the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, in Peshawar, police said another attempted attack on a check post was also foiled.

According to Warsak Superintendent of Police, militants attempted to attack the Sakhi Pul check post from the direction of the tribal district of Khyber. “The personnel were alert, and the attack was thwarted due to a timely response,” he said.
