From buses to billboards, political ads are taking over Milwaukee. The ad plethora is coming from both parties. Democrats and Republicans have put up billboards all over the city. “We have tons of billboards. Anyone who drives in or around Milwaukee will see them. We have digital ads, TV and radio ads,” said Sam Cornerle, executive director of the Democratic National Committee. The DNC has wrapped about 60 buses in Milwaukee County with signs supporting President Joe Biden. “What you’ll see on the buses is our attempt to meet voters on the street corner and say, ‘This is a choice that you have to start understanding and we’re going to work to get your vote,'” Cornerle said. “Is it safe to say that the DNC will be spending millions of dollars on ad campaigns at the Republican National Convention next week?” WISN 12 News reporter Kendall Keyes asked Cornerle. “I think it’s safe to say that, not just because the Republican convention is in Wisconsin, but because it’s going to be a very close and pivotal state,” Cornerle said. It’s not just campaigning. Posters in the Third Ward outline the idea of what will bring Wisconsinites together: beer. “A few blocks away, there’s a lot of serious events going on. We’re going to have some fun with this,” said Jim Plaisted, executive director of the Historic Third Ward Association. Plaisted said the Milwaukee advertising firm Hanson Dodge approached us with the idea. “Hanson Dodge, who’s been here for a long time, contacted us a few months ago and said we want to have some fun at the Republican National Convention, and what better way to bring people together in Milwaukee than with beer,” Plaisted said. Posters around the Third Ward suggest reaching beyond “ale” for the “beer partisans.” “In the Third Ward, we’re treating this as a normal week of summer fun, except we’re also going to have the Republican National Convention, and this event is a little kitschy way to have some fun with it,” Plaisted said. Third Ward Beer Garden will feature limited edition freebies of Explorium Brewpub’s “Reach Across the Ale” beer, card games, live music and beers on tap from local breweries on Wednesday, July 17. “The purpose is to have fun and also get the message out that, you know, there’s been a lot of controversy about security zones and businesses with deputies and people not coming downtown. Our message is we’re open,” Plaisted said.

“We have a ton of billboards. Anybody driving in and around Milwaukee will see them. We have digital advertising. We have television. We’re fully engaged with radio,” said Sam Cornare, executive director of the Democratic National Committee.
The DNC provided funding to wrap about 60 buses in Milwaukee County with signs supporting President Joe Biden.

“I think it’s safe to say that, not only because the Republican convention is in Wisconsin, but because it’s a close and crucial state,” Corner said.
And it’s not just the campaign: The 3rd Ward is plastered with posters outlining their ideas about what unites Wisconsinites: beer.
“There’s some serious stuff going on just a few blocks away, and we’re just trying to have some fun with this,” said Jim Plaisted, executive director of the Historic Third Ward Association.

Posters appearing throughout the Third Ward suggest they are moving beyond “ale” to become “beer partisans.”
