ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday a package was being prepared under a comprehensive and effective strategy to reduce electricity tariffs, which would be announced soon.

Chairing a review meeting on the matters related to the Power Division, Shahbaz stressed that there was no change in the government’s policy and priorities regarding solar energy.

“The promotion of renewable energy is the priority of the government,” the prime minister said, while addressing the meeting. “There has been no change in the government’s policy and priorities regarding solar energy.”

The prime minister directed the authorities concerned to remove all the ambiguities found among the public regarding the solarisation policy by presenting facts and figures.

He ordered expediting the process of privatisation of power distribution companies (DISCOs). “All legal and other matters regarding generation companies should be resolved as soon as possible,” he told the participants.

Shehbaz said that the public would be provided more relief in electricity prices after the reforms in the power sector. “A package is being prepared under a comprehensive and effective strategy to reduce electricity tariffs, which will be announced soon.”

The prime minister directed for further improving the coordination among the Power Division, Water Resources Division and Petroleum Division for a comprehensive strategy regarding the energy sector.
