Prashant Kishor to launch new political party in Bihar on October 2 ahead of 2025 Assembly elections

PATNA: Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for October next year, political analyst Prashant Kishore on Sunday formally announced the launch of a new political outfit on October 2, 2024, claiming that a 10 lakh member party will lay the foundations of the party.

Kishor, who met with functionaries of his Jan Suraj Abhiyan organisation in the state capital, claimed his proposed party would form a “people’s government” after the state assembly elections. He expressed confidence that his new party could make history, claiming that the Jan Suraj Party would be the first party in India to have 10 million members on its first day.

He clarified that the party is not confined to any particular caste, family or community but is a joint effort of the people of Bihar.

He said as many as 1.5 lakh people would be appointed as functionaries of the new party. Once a brilliant poll strategist, Kishor also made it clear that he would not be heading the party himself, but that leaders would be elected from each constituency.

He made it clear that he intends to strengthen the Jan Suraj Party ahead of the state assembly elections.

Kishore added that the party leadership would rotate among the five social groups, with a general leader holding the post for one year, followed by an OBC leader for another year. This rotation would ensure that all five social groups would have an opportunity to lead the party for five years.

He began his Jan Suraj Yatra from Bitihalwa Gandhi Ashram in West Champaran district on October 2, 2022, crisscrossing most parts of Bihar and interacting with the public. He has been equally critical of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Lalu Prasad, accusing them of not doing enough for the growth of the state.

The launch of the new party is preceded by eight state-level meetings attended by over 150,000 party cadres.

The party will campaign across the state of Bihar. In these meetings, the party formation process, party leadership, party constitution and party priorities will be decided with all the working members.

Stressing his resolve to empower the people of Bihar, Kishor said, “I have decided to support the people of Bihar and not any particular leader or political party. This will enable the people of Bihar to elect capable leaders and expedite the development of the state.”
