The exit polls will be released tomorrow after the final phase of voting ends at 6 pm on June 1. The final results will be announced on June 4, when the votes are counted. Political strategist Prashant Kishore has made several predictions for the BJP, the Congress, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and a few other states.
The 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections, India’s 18th general election, will see the seventh phase of voting for 543 seats tomorrow. The seven-phase election has seen a fierce battle between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rahul Gandhi’s Indian National Congress (Congress) and their respective alliances.
Let’s take a look at Prashant Kishore’s predictions for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
- Prashant Kishore has said in several interviews that the current BJP government at the Centre is not facing any major discontent or strong demand for an alternative in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
- He predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lead the BJP to victory again, with the party expected to win around 303 seats.
- Kishor said it would have been possible to oust the BJP from power if there had been widespread public dissent against the party leader. There is discontent and resentment against the party, but not against Prime Minister Modi himself.
- Jan Suraj also said that for the BJP to be removed from power, it would have to lose 100 seats in north and west India without gaining any seats in the east and south. He expressed doubt that the BJP could lose 100 seats in the north and west.
- Despite expected setbacks in Rajasthan and Maharashtra, Kishor suggested the BJP will only lose 20 to 30 seats, but he believes it is likely to offset these losses with gains in the south and east.
- Kishor doesn’t think the Congress will win 100 seats in the ongoing Indian Lok Sabha elections. “They (Congress) cannot win triple-digit seats. They will never win triple-digit seats,” he said in an interview.
- He also predicts an increase in the BJP’s vote share and seats in the states of Assam, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana.
- In an interview with India Today, Kishor said if elected to power, the BJP would bring petroleum under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and impose severe restrictions on the fiscal freedom of states.
- Kishor also predicted that India would become more assertive in its response to geopolitical challenges. “At the global level, India will become more assertive in its dealings with countries. There is a rumour going around in diplomatic circles that Indian diplomacy has become aggressive to the point of bordering on arrogance,” he said.
- He said that in Bihar, the Jan Suraj Party will win on its own in 2025 and Congress support is nowhere to be found in the state.
