ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday appointed the chief justices for all four provincial high courts, according to notifications issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The notifications, identical in content, confirmed that the appointments were made under Clause (1) of Article 193 of the Constitution, which governs the procedure for appointing high court judges.

The appointments will take effect from the date the respective justices take their oath of office.

Justice Sarfraz Dogar has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, while Justice Rozi Khan Barrech will serve as the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court. Justice Syed Muhammad Attique Shah has been named Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court and Justice Junaid Ghaffar will assume the top judicial post at the Sindh High Court.

The newly appointed chief justices are expected to be sworn in later this week. President Zardari will administer the oath to Justice Dogar at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, whereas the governors of the respective provinces will conduct the oath-taking ceremonies for the remaining three high court heads.
